Boingo Wireless, Inc. has been chosen as the exclusive provider of WiFi at the Berlin Brandernburg Airport (BER) when it opens on 17 March 2013.

Passengers will be able to access complimentary WiFi or upgrade to a premium service for a higher bandwidth, allowing the airport to serve the needs of both casual and power users while enabling ongoing investment in upgrades and expansion to support ever-increasing demand.

“Berlin Brandenburg Airport will offer its guests the most advanced amenities available,” said Ralf Kunkel of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. “Boingo Wireless will provide state-of-the-art WiFi services that can expand to meet additional demand as the airport grows, and connectivity that our travellers can count on.”

“As the leading provider of airport WiFi in Europe and around the globe, we have unparalleled experience in ensuring high-quality connections for all passengers,” said Bjorn Thorngren, director of EMEA for Boingo Wireless. “Our WiFi services can help international tourists and business travellers avoid excessive data roaming charges, while resident travellers can stay productive or be entertained while en route to their destination.”

The basic WiFi service will allow passengers to access their emails and social networking sites and stream audio for up to 30 minutes a day once they have authenticated their identity with a valid credit or debit card. The premium Boingo WiFi service will enable travellers to use data intensive applications, video streaming and large file uploading via any of the company’s WiFi plans.

Passengers will also have access to Boingo Europe Plus, which provides unlimited access at more than 200,000 hotspots throughout the Europe, Middle East and Africa region for €27.95 (£22.53) per month, and Boingo Global that provides flat rate access anywhere in the world for €49 (£39.50) per month. Hourly and day passes will also be available for purchase.
