Siemens Infrastructure Logistics has celebrated the successful implementation of the recently extended baggage handling systems at Heathrow Terminal 4. In July, the terminal welcomed the scheduled arrival of an Airbus A380 Malaysian Airlines Flight, which helped to demonstrate the increased capacity of the systems, which are now capable of processing arrival baggage for up to 500 passengers in a single operation.

The recent increase in arrivals capacity for Heathrow’s owners BAA is part of an ongoing expansion project of the reclaim hall to facilitate further A380 aircraft operating from Terminal 4.

According to Dr. Andrew Robinson, managing director of Siemens Infrastructure Logistics, the completion of the works on schedule is a good example of Siemens working in partnership with BAA at Heathrow to deliver projects within a complex operational airport environment. ‘The team thoroughly deserve the credit they have received, and this success further increases Siemens reputation on the airport campus,” he said.

Appointed at Heathrow by BAA as Principle Contractor and Baggage Integrator, the success of the project has special significance for Siemens at Terminal 4. Based on a simplified contracting approach, Siemens delivered an integrated solution for the full scope of baggage handling and builders’ works.
