Glasgow Airport in Scotland became the third UK airport to introduce automated boarding-pass scanners.

Six self-service scanning machines went live at the weekend in a move which the airport has said will mean shorter boarding times for outbound passengers.

Similar technology has already been rolled out at London City and London Gatwick airports where it has been said to improve boarding timings.

Their introduction came at the same time as Glasgow and Edinburgh airports introduced body scans of passengers.

The moves are part of a GBP£21 million (USD$33 million) investment in Glasgow Airport by owner BAA.

Amanda McMillan, Glasgow Airport's managing director said: "Not only will this technology enhance our compliance with strict industry security regulations, it will significantly reduce the amount of time passengers spend in the security hall."
