Glasgow Airport has announced that the number of passengers travelling through the airport in September 2012 has risen by 5.6% compared to the same period last year.

Almost 740,000 people passed through the airport last month, with international traffic increasing by 9.7% compared to September 2011. Popular European destinations were Rome, Faro, Malaga and Alicante, while long-haul routes such as Emirates’ Dubai and Air Transat’s Toronto services also proved popular.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said, “It is very encouraging to be able to continue our trend of passenger growth by reporting such positive figures for September. It is also significant that domestic traffic has returned to growth, with Flybe taking over the East Midlands route which was previously served by bmi Regional.

“Following strong performances by easyJet and Jet2.com in September, both airlines will provide even more choice in the coming weeks when the winter schedule commences with easyJet continuing its flights to Palma and Jersey, and Jet2.com adding flights to Lanzarote.”
