Vienna Airport has reopened its newly modernised terminal – Check-in 1.

All airberlin and NIKI flights will be handled in the terminal, which reopened today (January 9).

The revamp of the building included the addition of new check-in and ticket counters, the installation of a modern lighting concept and remodeling of the ceiling and walls.

The improvements follow the completion of the SkylinkTerminal – now known as Check-in 3 – earlier this year.

Airlines that previously used Check-in 2 will now relocate to Check-in 1A.

Check-in 2 will now be closed to allow for work on the underlying baggage sorting equipment.

The airport said in a statement: “The new Check-in 1 will bring greater travel comfort, above all for NIKI and airberlin passengers.

“Thirty check-in counters and eight self-check-in terminals are now available in 3,500sqm of terminal space.

“A new priority zone has been created for top bonus frequent flyers and the security controls also include fast lanes for top bonus platinum, gold and silver customers.”

Passengers using Check-in 1 will find two large baggage counters, two customs counters and a porter service.

The other airlines that will also use Check-in 1 are Aegean Airlines, Air France, Finnair, Alitalia, British Airways, China Airlines, Aer Lingus, Iberia, Jat Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Tarom, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines and Transaero Airlines.
