Da Nang’s Chu Lai International Airport in Vietnam could be transformed into a regional cargo hub.

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has tasked Parsons Brinckerhoff with investigating the possible redevelopment

The gateway would be transformed from a small regional airport into a “prominent regional cargo hub” to serve emerging industrial areas.

Chu Lai International Airport opened to commercial traffic in 2005.

In 2010, the airport handled 40,000 passengers with eight to 12 flights a day.

Funded by a US Trade and Development Agency grant, the study will analyse the potential for the airport.

The study will provide analysis to update the current masterplan, determine how to integrate cargo into its operation, and evaluate private sector investment opportunity for the airport’s future development.

The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam hopes the airport can reach four million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo by 2025.
