Stockholm Arlanda today officially inaugurated its new-look Terminal 2, claiming that a 2,000sqm expansion of the facility makes it bigger, better and more “passenger-friendly”.

The expansion has allowed for the introduction of a range of new retail and F&B outlets and is expected to boost passenger flows.

The near €50 million upgrade is expected to be completed in 2015 with the addition of a new baggage sorting system.

Operator, Swedavia, wants Stockholm Arlanda to be Scandinavia’s most modern and passenger-friendly gateway.

“The new Terminal 2 has all the potential to be a favourite for many passengers,” says airport director, Kjell-Åke Westin.

“It takes no more than 15 minutes to get from the train, bus or car to the gate. Along with this smooth flow, passengers will get the feeling of being at a cosy little airport contained in a big one.

“We are pleased that Terminal 2 now helps to enhance the overall impression of the airport.”

Swedavia believes that a brand-new lounge on the upper level gives “a luxurious feeling of home” and is suitable for passengers who want to work or relax.

There is also a new brasserie, Himmel och Hav, as well as Lavazza, an Italian café and restaurant concept on two levels.

Among the shops are Capi The Travellers Electronics Company, World of Toys, New Deli with Swedish specialities, and a bigger brand-new duty-free shop which also sells Swedish design.

“We have high ambitions when it comes to meeting our customers’ needs and aspirations, and it can be noted that Stockholm Arlanda’s new Terminal 2 is a clear demonstration of this ambition,” says Swedavia's chief executive, Torborg Chetkovich.
