Government officials have given in principle approval for the location of a new international airport in Pune in the Chakan-Rajgurunagar region of India.

Officials must complete a feasibility study by next February and a deadline of 2015 has been set for the start of construction

The study will help decide which villages will be acquired for the proposed gateway, according to reports.

The government will allocate €140 million for land acquisition while €28 million has already been allocated as seed money.

The proposed airport will have two parallel runways each 6km long.
