Final tests are being run at Bengaluru as it prepares to open its revamped Terminal 1.

Once completed, Terminal 1 will double in size and will include more seating areas, extra baggage carousels and check-in desks, a large security hold area, and additional aerobridges in order to make transition though the airport easier and more efficient.

The work is said to have cost $220million and as well as installations from local artists the new terminal extension will feature a large glass facade and designs to reflect the vibrant culture of Southern India.

The expanded terminal is currently undergoing bi-weekly tests with simulated passengers and luggage to ensure the new technology will be ready for the planned October opening.

MD of BIAL, Sanjay Reddy, has been keeping track of the progress and says: "While planning the extension of the terminal we felt that the airport should not just be an extension of the city's ethos, but also that of the community."

The work being completed is in keeping with the airports current style strengths, ensuring that walkways are kept short and linear, cutting down transit time through the terminal.
