Frankfurt Airport has achieved a new monthly passenger record after passing the six million traffic mark for the first time in a single month.

The 6.1 million represented a noticeable growth of 5.4% year-on-year, while Germany’s busiest gateway’s daily traffic volume also surpassed the 200,000 passenger level 13 times in August 2014.

Frankfurt Airport also registered its busiest traffic day in history on August 17, 2014, when it served 210,599 passengers.

The airport’s cargo throughput rose by 3.2% to 179,555 metric tonnes, up 3.2% compared to the same month last year, and aircraft movements also climbed by 0.6% to 42,684 take-offs and landings.

The airports in oeprator Fraport AG’s international portfolio continued to steer a steady growth path in August 2014.

Peru’s Lima Airport received 1.5 million passengers in the reporting month, a gain of 7.6% year-on-year, while on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Burgas and Varna airports together greeted 1.1 million travellers (up 4.7%).

Some 4.5 million passengers used Antalya Airport on the Turkish Riviera, a 9% increase with 1.7 million handled, Russia’s St Petersburg-Pulkovo Airport registered double-digit growth of 10.9%.

With almost 2.9 million passengers, Xi’an Airport in central China also saw similar growth of 10.1%, and Germany’s Hanover Airport reported 568,044 passengers and growth of 9.7% year-on-year.
