Mexican operating company Aerostar Airport Holdings has unveiled the newly renovated Terminal B at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in Costa Rica.

The US$130m renovation project has seen the addition of a new passenger inspection center, an autonomous baggage handling system, 10 new jet bridges and food and shopping concessions.

Agustin Arellano, CEO for Aerostar Airport Holdings, said, “In the process of remodeling we haven’t forgotten or ignored one single detail needed to transform this space. For instance, all the jet bridges are new, we have remodeled the bathrooms and installed new electric, hydraulic, anti-fire, audio and data systems. Some of the projects required a lot of resources and time, but make a significant improvement for passengers and operations in their overall experience.”

The renovation is part of a wider US$200m investment that will also include security upgrades. Further plans for the airport include a US$75m project to redevelop the third terminal, with an expected completion date of late 2015.

Aerostar Airport Holdings took over operations at the Luis Munoz Marin Airport in a US$2.6bn deal with the US territory's government in 2012. The airport currently handles approximately 8.5 million passengers a year and is served by 31 airlines.
