The construction of the new terminal building for VC Bird International Airport in Antigua and Barbuda is nearing completion according to the country’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne. The new terminal has suffered a series of set backs after an initial completion date of September 2014.

Browne said, “With the most sophisticated security and baggage control systems in the Americas, our airport once opened within the next three months, will be on par with any international airports in North America and Europe. We have increased the baggage carousels to five and will introduce four jet bridges – the first in the sub-region.”

VC Bird’s 241,600ft2 terminal has been built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and will consist of 14 departure gates, modern security screening facilities, up-to-date passenger processing facilities and a new CCTV security system. The new terminal will also contain 46 check-in counters, 15 self-check in kiosks, a mini food court, multiple VIP lounges, a bank, retail stores, restaurants and other facilities. The ground floor will have over 100 seats, while the first floor airside will have seating for 750 passengers.
