The Department of Transportation and Communications for the Philippines (DOTC) has reached an agreement with Chiyoda Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation for the construction of New Bohol International Airport on Panglao Island.

The contract is worth approximately US$92m and involves the construction of a new terminal capable of handling one million passengers annually and a 6,560ft runway.

It will be built under the ‘Eco Airport’ concept where the facility will be furnished with a photovoltaic power generation system and a filtering system to avoid pollution to the surrounding environment from drainage during construction. New Bohol International will replace the island’s existing airport when complete.

This is the second airport construction project jointly executed by Chiyoda and Mitsubishi, the first being the new Ulaanbaatar International Airport project currently under construction in Mongolia.
