Isavia is requesting proposals from interested parties for the operation of the Bureau de Change, ATM services and VAT refund at Keflavik International Airport.
Keflavik, located on the outskirts of capital Reykjavik, is Iceland‘s main airport and international gateway to the world.
In announcing the tender, Isavia claims that the profile of Keflavik Airport customers is changing.
It says that Icelandic travellers have historically been its main customers, but with fast increasing number of tourists to Iceland, foreign travellers are now becoming the main customer group.
Indeed, foreign nationals represented 71% of total passengers in 2014 and will grow to around 75% in 2020 according to projections.
In addition to the changing passenger mix, Keflavik Airport has experienced large increase in passenger numbers for the last five years.
In 2014, 3.86 million passengers passed through the airport which is an increase of 20.5% on the previous year.
It is estimated that the total number of passengers through Keflavik Airport will reach 5.2 million by 2020.
Only financial companies with an operating license granted by the Financial Supervisory Authority in Iceland to provide financial services or financial companies established and licensed in another member state of the European Economic Area (EEA) will be considered.
The Request for proposals documents are now available.
The closing date for submitting proposals is Friday, August 7, 2015.
It is estimated that negotiation period will start on Tuesday August 18, 2015 and will continue until contracts have been signed. The contract will start 6 months after successful negotiations.
