London Heathrow Airport has been named the ‘Airport of the Year’ by a panel of 10 judges for the Independent Travel Awards 2015.
The shortlist, which included Singapore Changi and Hong Kong International airports among others, was collated from votes from thousands of readers of The Independent, The Independent on Sunday and i newspapers and websites.
The judges described London Heathrow as “beating all comers,” acknowledging its successful opening of Terminal 2 and closure of Terminal 1 in the last 18 months, all while extracting more capacity than any other dual-runway airport in the world.
John Holland-Kaye, chief executive of London Heathrow, said, “Our vision is to give the passengers the best airport service in the world, we still have some way to go, but this award shows that we’re on the right path to make every journey better for our passengers. I am delighted to receive this award and dedicate it to all the people who work extremely hard every day to make Heathrow better.
“Heathrow is the front door to the UK and takes British people, exporters, families and businesses to every corner of the globe. We will work continuously to remain one of the best airports and with support for expansion we can take Britain even further across the world.”
