China resumes airport construction

Work has resumed on more than a quarter of China’s major airport infrastructure projects, the country’s CAA has announced.

During a video conference, the planning department of China’s Civil Aviation Administration reported the resumption of major civil aviation infrastructure projects. The Central and Southwest Civil Aviation Administration of Xinjiang, the Xinjiang Administration and the Air Traffic Management Bureau announced the resumption of major projects in their jurisdictions and the system. Guangdong, Sichuan, and Xinjiang Airport Group also reported the resumption of their major projects.

Dong Zhiyi, deputy director of the Civil Aviation Bureau, acknowledged the huge amount of work done by various units and departments to facilitate the resumption of major projects.

He also stressed that China’s airport industry must unite behind the government and work to both control the COVID-19 pandemic and resume major projects, highlighting the projects’ role in alleviating poverty among workers.

As of now, 65 of the 81 airport projects under construction in China have resumed. Of these, 27 are major national airport construction projects.
