Chinese airports receive record number of passengers

Chinese airports have seen 1.15 billion passengers in 2017. It is 12.9% more than 2016. Cargo volume also increased dramatically, with 16.7 million tons transported this year, a 7.1% raise compared to the previous year. The Chinese market for aviation is the fastest-growing in the world.

The national company Air China alone has had 12% more long-haul seats this year than all the Chinese companies combined back in 2010. At this rate, it should surpass the American market before 2022, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Half of the people traveling by air in the next 20 years are expected to live in Asia.

Those impressive numbers are the results of China’s constantly growing economy, which also leads to a fast growing middle class. To topple the huge demand of flying solutions by that emerging class, Chinese airlines could spend more than one billion dollars in planes before 2020.

That explosion of the Chinese, and of the Asian market overall, is at the center of Airbus and Boeing preoccupations. Meanwhile, China is developing its own commercial airplane, the C919 airliner.
