Contract signed for foundation works at Poland’s new airport passenger terminal

The first construction works for the passenger terminal of the new national airport will commence in September, starting with the installation of the terminal’s foundations. Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, the company responsible for delivering the Port Polska investment programme, has signed a contract for these works with Budimex S.A. The contract is valued at nearly PLN 146 million.

Having completed the preparation and design stages, we are now moving into the construction phase. Foundation works for the terminal, including deep piling, will begin this autumn. This will mark the symbolic start of the construction of a new state-of-the-art airport, which will be built between Łódź and Warsaw and will be one of the most advanced airports in Europe. From the Ministry of Infrastructure’s perspective, the key priority at the outset of this project was to ensure close coordination between the Ministry and the management of the company responsible for delivering the Port Polska programme,

– Dariusz Klimczak, Minister of Infrastructure.

The foundation works will involve the installation of more than 8,000 piles and ground-improvement columns, using a range of technologies, with lengths ranging from 9 to 30 metres. The total length of the planned ground reinforcement elements will exceed 140 kilometres. The works include the construction of intermediate foundations that will support the future passenger terminal structure. Completion of these works is scheduled for the turn of 2027 and 2028.

The procurement procedure for the terminal’s deep foundation works was launched on 12 December 2025. Nine of the largest construction companies and consortia, all of which had framework agreements with Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, were invited to participate in the tender. The deadline for submitting bids expired on 20 February, with six offers received, all within the planned budget. The most advantageous and lowest bid, amounting to PLN 145,952,189.91 gross, was submitted by Budimex S.A.

As planned, Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, the company implementing the Port Polska investment programme, will be ready to begin the first construction works at the new airport site in September. This will represent the symbolic beginning of the airport’s construction.”

said Dr. Filip Czernicki, Port Polska, CEO of Centralny Port Komunikacyjny.

Before construction can commence, it will still be necessary to obtain a building permit from the Mazovian Voivode and formally take possession of the required plots of land.

Budimex S.A. has many years of experience in the construction and maintenance of roads, railway lines and airports. The company operates its own laboratory facilities and maintains an extensive fleet of construction and railway equipment, enabling it to deliver projects of the largest scale.

Poland’s new airport
The airport to be built as part of the Port Polska project will be the most advanced facility of its kind in this part of Europe. It will be capable of handling more than 300,000 aircraft movements annually and will feature two independent runways.

This investment will transform Poland’s transport landscape and strengthen connectivity across Central Europe. It will create opportunities for economic growth, attract new technologies and generate substantial employment. More than 35,000 jobs are expected to be created within the airport operations alone.

The estimated cost of the investment programme through to 2032 is PLN 131.7 billion.
