Detroit Metropolitan Airport will receive more than USD15 million in federal transportation grants, Sen. Carl Levin, (D-Mich), announced on September 14. The Federal Aviation Administration funds will be used to rehabilitate a runway and boost emission-reducing infrastructure at the airport. “These substantial federal grants for Detroit Metro will create jobs and significantly improve the safety and infrastructure at Michigan’s largest airport,” Levin said.
The airport will receive USD 13,198,322 for the first phase of the Runway 4R/22L reconstruction project. It will also receive USD 1,849,866 to improve the central power system and low-emission natural gas boilers as part of the Voluntary Airport Low-Emission program. The project will improve airport air quality and reduce the use of conventional fuels.
