The future is Smart as Aberdeen International Airport becomes 5G connected
Aberdeen International Airport has become one of the UK’s most connected airports thanks to a partnership with leading the UK’s leading supplier of smart, in-building cellular solutions experts, Exchange Communications, which will see the installation of 5G.
The enabling of 5G at the airport, which is amongst Scotland’s top three busiest travel hubs, welcoming 2.4million passengers last year, will see significant advantage for passengers, staff and airline partners, setting the North East airport on the road to becoming a ‘smart airport’ and helping to establish its position as a pioneer in tehnological advancement.
A project to install 4G and 5G has been completed and sees the implementation of next generation in-buiding technology, which will boost connection and download speeds across the airport. In the next few months, the airport will see the main carriers join the installation which smart-enables the building to support everything from intelligent automation to energy efficiency and enhanced security.
Aberdeen International Airport was first established 90 years ago in July 1934. It serves as the main heliport for the offshore energy industry.
