British technology company Smiths Group Plc on Wednesday said it expected to deliver full-year results in line with forecasts as it reported a 17 percent rise in headline operating profit. Smiths, whose products range from airport X-ray scanners to mechanical seals and medical equipment, said the first-half results were boosted by a strong performance at its John Crane mechanical seals division and favourable exchange rates.

It reiterated that the scale and timing of order flow could affect short-term results at its Detection business.

For the six months ended Jan. 31, Smiths reported headline operating profit of 185 million pounds ($271 million), up from 158 million pounds last year, on sales up 19 percent at 1.3 billion pounds.
