Virgin Atlantic joins Green Cabin Alliance as first Airline Ally to help explore cabin sustainability

13 October 2026 – London, UK: Virgin Atlantic has joined the Green Cabin Alliance (GCA) as the first member of its new initiative, Airline Allies, joining the network working to make aircraft cabins more circular and sustainable.
Airline Allies is an exclusive network for airlines that want to better understand and reduce the environmental impact of aircraft cabin design, materials and end-of-life management.
For Virgin Atlantic, joining Airline Allies means a chance to bring its own operational experience to the table, learn from peers across the industry, and help inform approaches that may carry through into future cabin programmes.
Cabin interiors sit inside complex supply chains and need to meet strict requirements for safety, durability, weight and customer experience. Virgin Atlantic sees progress as depending on closer collaboration between airlines, suppliers, manufacturers and technical teams.
Chris Pearce, Design & Experience Manager at Virgin Atlantic, said:
“Improving the environmental impact of aircraft cabins is a challenge that requires collaboration across the industry. Through Green Cabin Alliance’s Airline Allies initiative, we can share our experience, learn from others and explore practical ways to improve how cabin products are designed.
“As we begin to retrofit aircraft, we are seeing first-hand the challenges involved in managing existing cabin interiors when they are removed from service. Sharing those experiences can help inform future discussions about cabin design and the options available for extending product life and managing materials responsibly.”
By joining the GCA’s Airline Allies, Virgin Atlantic will work with industry partners to share experience, surface common barriers, and identify practical opportunities to support outcomes that balance sustainability, safety, technical and commercial constraints.
Elina Kopola, Founder of Green Cabin Alliance, said:
“Cabin sustainability cannot rely only on designers and suppliers, airlines must become part of the conversation.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Virgin Atlantic on board. The airline brings something helpful: real experience of what happens to cabin products once they come out of service. That’s exactly the kind of insight that can help us move from good intentions to practical solutions.
“No single organisation alone can solve the challenges around cabin materials, refurbishment and end of life. Our Airline Allies aims to bring airlines together with the companies designing, manufacturing and supplying cabin products to collaboratively address these challenges.”
As the first member of the GCA’s Airline Allies initiative, Virgin Atlantic will help open dialogue between the GCA members and airlines to tackle key challenges of sustainable cabin design. With Virgin coming on board, GCA expects more airlines to join the conversation.
Membership of Airline Allies is open to airlines of any size – the GCA just asks that participants contribute operational insights, share their challenges and collaborate on solutions that can benefit the wider industry.
Boeing, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Alaska Airlines and Airbus are also part of the GCA advisory board and the inclusion of more airlines involved in the day-to-day operational insights will complete the circle of stakeholders.
Airlines interested in joining Airline Allies or any organisations working within the Aircraft Interiors sector can find more details via the GCA, or register their interest by emailing joinus@greencabinalliance.org.
