New Heinemann Duty Free Welcomes Passengers in Kaunas

Part of the already announced major changes at the Kaunas Airport passenger terminal is a new and significantly larger “Heinemann Duty Free” store, offering a range that includes unique Lithuanian amber products, traditional culinary specialties, and highlights reflecting Kaunas’ passion for basketball.

“After the upgrade, Kaunas Airport’s capacity and ability to deliver an improved passenger experience increases significantly. Our partners at Lithuanian Airports, who maintain high service quality standards and have extensive experience, play an important role in this,” says Gintarė Norvilaitė-Tautevičė, Director of the Commercial Department at Lithuanian Airports. She notes that the new commercial spaces in the reconstructed terminal were designed in line with best practices used at the world’s leading airports.

Lithuanian elements in interior and product range

The new “Heinemann Duty Free” store, operated by the company Travel Retail Vilnius, covers 585 sq. m in the Schengen departures area of the terminal. This is double the size of the two previous stores in the same zone, which together covered 278 sq. m. A dedicated 120 sq. m section of the interior showcases Lithuanian-made products, with the furniture design incorporating elements of Lithuanian folk art.

Travel Retail Vilnius is part of Gebr. Heinemann SE & Co. KG, one of the largest global companies in duty-free retail and logistics.

Frequent travelers will notice a broader and more diverse assortment, including new brands in perfume, cosmetics, clothing, electronics, and accessories. There is a wide selection of Lithuanian design goods, woodcraft, textiles, and jewelry. Travelers can conveniently shop for gifts and personal items in one place before their flight. The store features traditional šakotis cakes, local beverages, linen and wood products, jewelry, and amber pieces. Works by Lithuanian designers and perfumers such as J. Statkevičius, R. Piekautaitė, and A. Mickevičius are displayed in abundance, while sports fans will find merchandise of BC Žalgiris Kaunas.

Those looking for well-known international brands can explore what classics and new arrivals are offered by Chanel and Dior in cosmetics and perfumery. High-quality electronics from JBL, Marshall, Sony and other well-known manufacturers are also available. A wide range of sunglasses, clothing, footwear, and travel accessories is offered as well. Shoppers at Kaunas Airport can now choose both traditional checkout and self-service payment options.

“Kaunas Airport is growing and attracting new passenger flows, making it very important for our future development. We are opening the renewed store with great optimism and confidence in its potential. These changes would not have been possible without the exceptional work of our teams in Lithuania and Germany—we have once again demonstrated how fast, creative, and ambitious we are in setting new standards for our industry,” says Orinta Amelija Ambrazevičienė, CEO of Travel Retail Vilnius.

She adds that another 107 sq. m store will soon open at Kaunas Airport in the non-Schengen departures area, offering last-minute shopping options after passport control.

The company operating the “Heinemann Duty Free” brand won the international Lithuanian Airports tender this year. The lease agreement with the duty-free operator is signed for eight years. The company plans to open a completely new 1,300 sq. m walkthrough store in Vilnius Airport in 2026, along with a 479 sq. m non-Schengen zone store.

Duty-free and travel-value stores at airports worldwide occupy central locations and represent a major part of the commercial offering for passengers—from toys to perfumes and local designer goods. According to LTOU Commercial Director Gintarė Norvilaitė-Tautevičė, these trends were a key consideration when planning the commercial development of Vilnius and Kaunas airports, placing retail points in central, high-visibility passenger routes.
