Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has awarded Nuance-Watson Asia a contract to run two confectionery licenses at the KLIA 2 satellite terminal when it opens in April 2013.
According to DFNI Online, the contract is the company’s first Malaysian duty-free tender. The two stores will be named Taste and Treats and Taste and Delights and will stock a wide variety of products suitable for children, travellers and as gifts.
The two stores will occupy 215m² of retail space in total within KLIA 2’s international departures area and Nuance-Watson Asia will hold the license until 2018.
Nuance-Watson Asia regional managing director Alessandra Piovesana told DFNI Online, “We are gratified and highly motivated with the outcome of the KLIA 2 tender, which is giving birth to Nuance-Watson (Malaysia). This new promising and strategic offspring of Nuance-Watson Asia is opening up new avenues for our company’s development in the region. We are grateful to MAHB (Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd) for considering Nuance-Watson for this opportunity.”
KLIA 2 will serve low-cost carriers, and according to MAHB 43% of low-fare travel in Asia comes from Malaysia. The new terminal is expected to serve 30 million regional passengers a year and the new contracts are viewed by Nuance-Watson Asia as “a strategic step to pave broader opportunities in the rapidly-growing Asian markets”, DFNI Online reported.
“Purchases of confectionery always tend to be impulsive, therefore interactive store set-up and displays, inviting shopping ambience and engaging services, extensive product variety and unique packaging, attractive pricing and creative promotion and tasting offerings are all critically important,” added Piovesana.
“Leveraging our category expertise and insights, strong brand partnerships and operational experience, we are confident to match KLIA 2’s expectation to attract the world’s curious retail explorers with its E.L.I.T.E. (Experiential, Liberating, Innovative, Thrilling and Ever-changing) principle. With our united regional team and in partnership with Malaysia Airports, we are ready to embark upon a new path of growth.”
