Vienna Airport has opened its newly refurbished Check-in 1 terminal that now includes modernised check-in and ticket counters, lighting concepts and remodeled walls and ceilings.

Passengers will benefit from 30 check-in counters and 8 self-service kiosks located in the 3,500m² terminal, and a new priority zone has been created for frequent flyers. The security area also features fast lanes for top bonus platinum, gold and silver customers and the baggage area includes two large baggage counters, two customer counters and a porter service. A new covered passenger walkway has also been added from the central arrivals hall in to Car Park 3.

Check-in 1 will handle all flights by NIKI and airberlin and airlines previously based at Check-in 2 will now be relocated to the modernised terminal.

Check-in 2 is closed from today (9 January) to allow for work on the underlying baggage sorting equipment, which will create a more direct and shorter route from the B- and C-Gates to the central arrivals hall in Check-in 3. This will substantially shorten the walk for incoming passengers through the old baggage claim area. From the current point of view, this work should be completed in spring 2013.

A concept for the redesign of Check-in 2 is being prepared at the same time, and a decision on this project is expected during the first half of 2013.
