Detection systems from L-3 Security & Detection Systems (SDS) will feature in the introduction of fully automated baggage handling and sorting at Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport and São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport.

Featuring eXaminer systems and other detection equipment, the new setup will enhance security and raise operational efficiency at the gateways, said Thomas M. Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems.

“We are proud to support Brazil’s expanding transportation infrastructure as it prepares to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.”

L-3 SDS will provide Vanderlande Industries, the airports’ baggage handling systems and services supplier, with solutions including: the eXaminer 3DX and eXaminer SX computed tomography systems, MVT-HR automated high-speed explosives detection systems, as well as OptiNet networking and service to help clear more bags with less staff.
