London Luton Airport is preparing to go to the market with plans to expand the existing terminal building and deliver transport improvements. Airport operator London Luton Airport Operations has not set out a formal timetable but issued a OJEU notice on Oct. 31 highlighting its plan to issue a prequalification notice in the next few months.

Two planned main works programmes will see £100m of improvements to the terminal building through the construction of a new pier.

Pascall & Watson Architects have been commissioned to design the new terminal ahead of a bid competition.
Landside civil works will include constructing two new traffic lanes to the south of “Airport Way”, leading into a newly created set down system in the Central Terminal Area, which will ease congestion and manage growth in the future.

Luton Airport released a masterplan in March last year setting out a 15-year, £1.5bn expansion plan to help ease air traffic congestion in the south east.
The new plan aims to turn Luton into ‘London’s Local Airport’ through improved transport links.
Plans were lodged with Luton Council last November for the terminal expansion and road improvements.
