A groundbreaking ceremony will be held today to mark the start of construction of a new facility at Mineta San José International Airport (SJC).

Signature Flight Support is building an $82 million fixed base operations (FBO) facility, which will be called Signature San José

Among the dignitaries at the ceremony will be San José Mayor Chuck Reed, Kim Becker Aguirre, director of Aviation SJC, and business leaders from across the Silicon Valley.

Once constructed, it will serve the general aviation needs of individuals and companies in Silicon Valley, and Blue City Holdings, the private aviation arm of Google’s founders, is one of the anchor tenants.

The facility is part of the west side of SJG, that has been identified for development to accommodate growth in general aviation service demand.

The 29-acre FBO facility will serve this market, and features 240,000 sq ft of hangar space, a passenger terminal and other amenities.

The LEED-designed facility is set to create hundreds of new jobs and generate more than $3 million in annual revenue for San José.

San José International is owned and operated by the City of San José, and in 2013 it handled 8.8 million passengers.
