Singapore Changi Airport has reported the number of passengers it handled in March dropped by 2.5% compared to the same month last year.

More than 4.49 travellers were welcomed, while 29,100 landings and take-offs were recorded, a 2.5% year-on-year increase.

Singapore Changi says the figures for March were influenced by socio-political factors that continued to weigh down on travel demand on some routes, while a reduction in long-haul capacity, especially to the US has also impacted passenger movements.

Meanwhile, Thailand traffic decreased for the fifth consecutive month, with traffic to and from Bangkok declining by 29% for March.

Singapore Changi handled a total of 13.2 million passengers in the first quarter of 2014, down 1.1% on same period in 2013.

Total flight movements for the first three months of 2014 grew 4.5% to 86,300, while 446,900 tonnes of cargo were processed, which the airport says remained ‘stable’.
