Finnish airport operator Finavia has selected construction firm Lemminkäinen to undertake the extension and alteration work for the Helsinki Airport in Finland. Lemminkäinen will start construction work in autumn 2015 with completion scheduled for 2020.
The work will cover a surface area of approximately 815,900ft² and will be delivered at a cost of €173m (US$191m). The terminal building will be in use throughout the project so work will need to be phased to minimize disruption to passenger flow. The contract will be executed as a cooperative management project with close communications between Finavia, the passengers, the planners and Lemminkäinen.
Pauli Mäkelä, senior vice president, Lemminkäinen, said, “The fact that Lemminkäinen was selected as the contractor is proof of our strong experience and skilled personnel. I believe that in the future similar forms of partnership-based projects will play an increasingly important role in large projects.”
