Airport operator Swedavia has unveiled its plans to develop an airport city at Göteborg Landvetter Airport in Sweden. The project will involve redeveloping more than 490 acres of land surrounding the airport to create a logistics park, business district and hotel/retail area. The airport city will create approximately 10,000 new jobs upon completion.

The first phase of the project will redevelop approximately 60 acres of land to create Logistics Park 1, an area with new facilities for warehousing, logistics and offices. Construction work on the terracing is already underway with completion set for 2017. The logistics facilities are being developed in a joint venture between Swedavia and Bockasjö, which specializes in constructing, owning and managing logistics properties.

Charlotte Ljunggren, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, said, “People will really see that a great deal will be happening at the airport over the next few years, especially in the area where the airport city is taking shape. But the entire airport is being developed to meet the region’s needs – the terminal is being expanded and we are preparing for a rail link.”

Karl Wistrand, chief executive of Swedavia Real Estate, the property developers for the land around Swedavia’s ten airports, said, “With the investments we are now making at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, we are further developing the airport as a hub for all of western Sweden. This is a major step in the development of the area around the airport, which will create growth potential both for airport operations and for the region in
general.”
