Brandenburg to open in 2020: update

The much-delayed Berlin Brandenburg Airport is to open on October 31, 2020, its supervisory and management boards have confirmed.

Scheduled flights will end at Berlin Tegel one week later, on November 8, flight operations having been relocated in three stages over the course of the week.

At a meeting between the two boards, the management board reported on the status of the construction of Terminal 1 and certification provider TÜV Rheinland gave an update on progress toward certification.

The management board also reported that work on Terminal 2 is progressing as planned. The installation of the baggage handling system and other technical building equipment has started. Structural work on the federal police building directly adjacent to Terminal 2 is underway. The building envelope, planned in a modular design, will be completed in a few weeks.

“The date is set: Berlin Brandenburg will open on October 31, 2020. There is still much to be done in the next 11 months. The finished building must become a functioning airport,” said Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, chief executive officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg (Berlin Brandenburg Airport).
