Fraport completes T1 forecourt renovation

Fraport - Frankfurt Airport in Germany

Vorfeld NachtAirport operator Fraport has completed the newly renovated Terminal 1 (T1) arrivals forecourt at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

The €36m (US$41m) project took more than a year to complete and involved the modernization of the whole outdoor area including the terminal façade, which was fitted with a new glass and steel structure covering 22,600ft2 and incorporating 34,000 LEDs.

The new area has also been redesigned to improve traffic flow and has implemented a parking system similar to Terminal 2 (T2), whereby general traffic may use terminal access roads free of charge for the first 10 minutes. Once this period is exceeded, parking charges apply and must be paid at the automatic pay stations. The forecourt also boasts six large format LED screens to maximize advertising opportunities.

Dr Matthias Zieschang, chief financial officer of Fraport, said, “The entrance of T1 is now reflective of a modern city center and the digital information services and reduced traffic enhance the experience significantly. Thus, the open and welcoming culture at our airport extends from the apron all the way to the sidewalk. The first impression that our many guests have of the airport will be even more positive.”
