Delta Air Lines said on Monday that it reached an agreement to extend its lease at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport until 2017.
The lease was set to expire in September 2010. Atlanta is currently Delta's largest hub.
In a statement, Atlanta-based Delta said the agreement was subject to approval by the Atlanta City Council and its board.
Delta and the city of Atlanta had been in talks about the airport lease for much of this year. Atlanta is one of the world's busiest airports.
"We look forward to working with the city administration and the city council on finalising the legislation and moving forward with the development of the Maynard Holbrook Jackson, Jr. International Terminal," Delta chief executive Richard Anderson said in a statement.
Construction on the new terminal, named for the late Atlanta ex-mayor, began in 2008. Over the summer, the Atlanta City Council authorised USD$800 million in bond financing to complete the terminal.
