India has granted low cost carrier IndiGo international traffic rights, which are likely to commence after the carrier's 5th year of operations in August.
The rights will allow IndiGo to operate from several Indian cities to Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai, and Muscat, says IndiGo. Specific schedules will be announced in the near future.
According to Indian regulations, a carrier must be operational for 5 years before it can operate any international services.
The carrier recently received in-principle approval from the Indian government for its large order of 180 Airbus A320s, and expects to firm up the purchase within the next few weeks.
On 11 January IndiGo announced a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for the order, which comprises 150 of the new re-engined A320neo and 30 regular A320s.
In May 2010, IndiGo said it was seeking government approval for the purchase of up to 150 new aircraft which will be used to expand its network. The narrowbody jets will be delivered between 2016 and 2025.
