Six people have been killed and six injured yesterday when a small passenger aircraft crashed and caught fire in heavy fog at Cork Airport in southern Ireland.
The metroliner SW4, which had 2 crew memners and 10 passengers aboard, was en route from Belfast in Northern Ireland. It overturned and caught fire on its third attempt at landing.
The six survivors have been transferred to a local hospital.
Politicians have scaled back their election campaigns and Enda Kenny, the leader of the main opposition party, held a minute's silence for the victims.
The plane was leased to Manx2, an Isle of Man-based airline which carries 100,000 people a year.
Ireland's Department of Transport are investigating the crash.
Passengers due to fly from George Best are being advised to obtain the latest information on the airport website before they leave home.
