New greenfield airport for India’s Arunachal Pradesh region

AAI (Airports Authority of India) has announced that it has begun construction of a new airport on a greenfield site in Hollongi, 15km from Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh.

AAI states that with an area of 4,100m2 , the new domestic terminal building at Hollongi Airport is to be equipped with eight check-in counters and will be able to handle 200 passengers during peak hours. The terminal building will be energy efficient and incorporate systems such as rainwater harvesting and sustainable landscaping.

The operator says that building’s design will be influenced by the surrounding landscapes, incorporating a flowing structure that mimics the natural terrain. This trend will be mimicked inside, with the use of free-flowing spaces, a hidden service core and a glass façade providing panoramic views of the area.

AAI says that soil testing and field survey works have been completed and site clearing work is in progress, with some construction already underway. November 2022 has been set as a tentative date for completion of the project.
