US Preclearance lounge opened at Dublin Airport
Dublin Airport in Ireland has opened a new passenger lounge in Terminal 2 (T2) for use by US Preclearance passengers flying business class, or in possession of an airline club card, with Aer Lingus, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and American Airlines.
The 51st&Green lounge covers more than 8,000ft² and is capable of seating up to 180 guests. Its design has been inspired by the historical location of Newgrange in Ireland and features a 100ft entrance corridor paved with terrazzo tiles spaced by bronze strips. The lounge also boasts panoramic views of the airfield.
As well as food and drink facilities, the new lounge offers guests a concierge service, luxury shower rooms, an entertainment area with sports channels, a private area for Platinum Service customers, printing facilities, charging outlets and free wi-fi throughout.
US Preclearance allows passengers to clear immigration and customs checks before landing at certain US airports, helping to expedite the arrivals process. A record one million passengers used Dublin Airport’s US Preclearance facility in 2015.
Vincent Harrison, managing director, Dublin Airport, said, “We are delighted to have this post US Preclearance lounge open for passengers which is unique as Dublin is the only airport outside of North America to offer a lounge facility once the necessary Preclearance checks are completed.
“With four airlines currently flying 276 times to and from 11 destinations in the USA on a weekly basis, an average of almost 40 return flights daily, Dublin Airport now ranks fifth among EU airports for route frequency to North America. We have surpassed Madrid and only Heathrow, Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam airports are ahead of Dublin.”
