WHSmith to open stores at Helsinki Airport

The state-owned airport maintenance firm Finavia announced that the British retail chain WHSmith will open their first-ever shops in Finland at Helsinki Airport towards the end of this year.

The UK-based chain of newsstand convenience stores WHSmith is scheduled to open four outlets at Helsinki Airport between late 2016 and early 2017, according to Finnish airport operator Finavia.

The retail group’s shops will open for business in terminal 1 in late 2016 and in terminal 2 in early 2017. The WHSmith shops at Helsinki Airport will be operated by SSP Finland, a long-time partner of Finavia.

Finavia’s Elena Stenholm, VP of commercial services at the airport said she was pleased to have another international operator in Finland.

“Large global companies are now more interested in Helsinki Airport as a place of business than ever before. This demand and interest shows that we have developed the airport and its commercial services in the right direction for efficiency and profitability,” Stenholm said.
