Edinburgh Airport has been named ‘Best European Airport (5-10m passengers)’ for the third year in a row at the 9th Annual ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards.
Scotland’s busiest airport was singled out by judges for its focus on its customer base – both passengers and airlines – and in particular by its willingness to invest in attracting new routes to the Capital.
Commenting on the win, Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, said, “We are absolutely delighted to have won this award for the third year in a row. Being named Best European Airport for our size two years running was fantastic but to win for a third time is truly outstanding. I want to thank everyone at Edinburgh Airport who shows such amazing dedication on a daily basis to ensure our passengers have the best experience possible.
“The last 12 months have been challenging following our change in ownership but we have embraced change and not only have we welcomed a number of exciting new domestic and international routes, we’ve rolled out a completely new brand identity.
“This award is testament to the hard work of all involved who make Edinburgh Airport the place where Scotland meets the world.”
The ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards cover four categories and aim to recognise achievement in core activities such as customer service, retail, security and environmental awareness.
This year’s judging panel was drawn from a well-respected group of independent experts including EUROCONTROL, European Passengers’ Federation, Malaysia Airports Holdings and the Disabled People’s Association (Denmark). ACI EUROPE counts around 450 airports in 44 European countries among its membership and this year’s competition saw a high level of competition in each of the five categories.
