Birmingham Airport Announces Free Family Festival

Birmingham Airport is delighted to announce further celebrations to commemorate its 80th anniversary this year. On Sunday 1st September, the airport will hold ‘Birmingham Airport Fest’ – a one day free festival in Sheldon Country Park (B26 3TU).

The family festival has something for all tastes, with a special performance from the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Jen & Derek from Milkshake and Aston Performing Arts Academy. There will be local arena entertainment, a silent disco, interactive circus skill demonstrations, food & drink vendors and local community stalls as well as Bob Wilsons funfair.

More acts and activities will be announced nearer the time  along with the schedule of events. Free tickets for the Birmingham Airport Fest can be downloaded here.

Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport said: “We are very excited to announce our plans for the flagship event in our 80th Birthday year.  We are very conscious of our surroundings and we also know that we do have an impact on our neighbours. For this reason, we wanted to be able to give something back to the community around us and say thank you by throwing a free festival for all the family.

By holding Birmingham Airport Fest, the community will be able to share in our success and year-long celebration and we are looking forward to welcoming guests to this free for all festival on the 1st September.  We look forward to seeing people from across the local area, partners and employees there on the 1st September.

As part of the anniversary year, the airport is asking for stories from the community on their memories of the airport over the years.  Working with Free Radio, it is encouraging people to share their holiday memories, work memories or simply their memories of living and growing up near to Birmingham Airport. This can be done via this link.

Birmingham Airport Fest is one of many activities to commemorate its 80th anniversary. Other events have included a staff party, becoming the headline sponsor of Solihull Summer Fest in Tudor Grange and a year-long Principal Partnership of Birmingham Royal Ballet to support its Dance Tracks and Freefall dance companies. Further plans to be announced for the remainder of the year.

Birmingham Airport Fest will run between 1100 and 1730 on Sunday 1st September 2019. There will be a small allocation of free car park spaces at Sheldon Country Park but attendees are encouraged to use public transport where possible. Searches will take place at the entrance point and attendees must bring their EventBrite tickets with them to present at the gate.
