M2mobi launches updated app for Schiphol Airport
Mobile developer M2mobi has launched an updated app for Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands containing a new map, location detection and indoor navigation functionalities.
The location and navigation functions make use of the 2,000 beacons recently installed by the airport, providing an alternative to GPS systems that are unable to work inside buildings. The project is one of the first of its kind to be delivered in such a large and complex building.
Passengers can use the app to be directed to their departure gate, with an easy to read display and walk times. The navigation tool has also been linked with the app’s shopping features, allowing passengers to choose a desired product before being guided to the store’s location.
Mike Smolders, project manager, M2mobi, said, “We have been working very hard with Schiphol on indoor location detection and are extremely pleased with having developed such a user-friendly solution with an accuracy range of approximately five meters (16.4ft).”
Michiel Munneke, general manager, M2mobi, said, “We are proud of our innovation partnership with Schiphol. Outdoor, mobile navigation has become a commodity, but indoor navigation is still in its infancy. It’s great to see that we can work so successfully with Schiphol to explore the boundaries of what is possible in this area.”
