In Brazil, five airports operated by VINCI Airports received ANAC award for environmental excellence

Salvador, Manaus, Porto Velho, Boa Vista and Rio Branco airports, part of VINCI Airports network, have been recognized by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for their environmental best practices. The result illustrates VINCI Airports’ commitment to a sustainable and innovative management of airport infrastructure.

Salvador Airport was recognized in the Society and Inputs pillars in the category of airports handling more than 5 million passengers per year. Manaus Airport received the award in the same pillars in the category of airports with up to 5 million passengers per year. In the category for airports with up to 1 million passengers per year, Boa Vista, Porto Velho and Rio Branco airports were awarded under the Externalities pillar. These recognitions demonstrate Brazilian airports ongoing commitment to VINCI Airports’ environmental strategy, which targets a 67% reduction in its carbon footprint by 2030 (compared to 2018) for scopes 1 & 2, while also engaging stakeholders in the decarbonization process.

Since starting its operations in Brazil in 2018 with the concession of Salvador Airport, VINCI Airports has been implementing his environmental sustainability plan. Among its main initiatives are the use of 100% renewable energy, the achievement of the “zero landfill” goal for waste management, wastewater treatment with zero environmental discharge, and the attainment of the ISO 14001 environmental certification and ACA 4+, the international carbon reduction certification granted by the Airport Carbon Accreditation program.

At the Amazonian airports, local initiatives have also made a difference. Boa Vista Airport has implemented LED lighting across the terminal, introduced an electric tricycle for waste collection, and modernized its baggage conveyor system to reduce energy consumption. Porto Velho Airport has deployed similar waste collection solutions and contributes to reforestation efforts through seedling donations to the State Department of Environmental Development (Sedam). In Rio Branco, the airport uses an intelligent lighting management system, Sonoof, to optimize electricity use across its facilities. In Manaus, environmental performance also includes biodiversity and education: the airport supports turtle preservation programs, facilitates scientific research, and hosts an ecological trail open to the public as part of its environmental education efforts.

Receiving this recognition from ANAC reinforces VINCI Airports’ commitment to sustainability as a core value of our operations in Brazil and around the world. This achievement is the result of collective effort: environmental responsibility does not lie solely with the environmental team, but with all teams involved in our airports. We are building solutions for the future, with actions that positively impact the territories in which we operate and inspire other initiatives within the aviation sector. Working collaboratively, sharing best practices, is what strengthens the entire industry and allows us to evolve continuously,” says Julio Ribas, CEO of VINCI Airports in Brazil.”
